Day 1 - May 29

Welcome Home – Embracing Ghana’s Spirit

Arrive in Accra and experience Ghanaian hospitality from the moment you land. After a seamless transfer to your hotel, settle in before gathering with fellow leaders for a welcome dinner. Dr. Isaac Addae will set the context for the journey ahead, framing the week through the lens of education, leadership, and global opportunity. Come ready to connect, reflect, and engage.

Day 2 - May 30

Accra city tour & school visits

Begin with a guided tour of Accra that traces the city's layered story, from Independence Square and the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum to the commercial energy of Makola Market. The afternoon shifts into Ghana's education landscape with visits to public and private institutions offering a range of instructional models and philosophies. The day closes with a cultural welcome dinner featuring remarks from cohosts Dr. Watechia Lawless and Robert Turner.

Day 3 - May 31

Sankofa: Origins & reflection

Travel along Ghana's coastline to Assin Manso, the site of the Last Bath, where enslaved Africans were forced to cleanse before their final march to the sea. The visit invites honest reckoning with history and the resilience it produced. In the afternoon, participate in a traditional Akan naming ceremony, a symbolic homecoming that restores ancestral identity. The day ends at an oceanfront resort in Elmina, where evening reflection connects heritage to the work of education leadership.

Day 4 - June 1

cape coast: lessons from the past

A guided visit to Cape Coast Castle confronts the full weight of the transatlantic slave trade. Walking through the dungeons and the Door of No Return, participants engage with history not as an abstraction but as a lived reality. Facilitated group reflection frames the experience in terms of perseverance, dignity, and the responsibility educators carry. Return to Accra grounded and ready for the days ahead.

Day 5 - june 2

local school visits

Go deeper into Ghana's educational system through visits to primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions. Observe instruction, meet school leaders, and engage in substantive dialogue about teacher development, family engagement, and the integration of STEM and entrepreneurship into curriculum. These conversations are peer-to-peer exchanges between educators offering opportunities for exchanges in knowledge and best practices.

Day 6 - June 3

Enter the continent's premier convening on digital learning, training, and skills development. Attend plenaries and breakout sessions that surface how technology is transforming education across Africa, from edtech innovation to workforce readiness. The conference floor offers direct access to global education leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs, and serves as a live laboratory for ideas participants can carry back to their own institutions. Day 7 - june 4

Dive deeper through workshops and panels on digital inclusion, blended learning models, and entrepreneurship in education. Explore the exhibition hall to engage with platforms and tools being scaled across the continent. Day 8 - june 5

experience the volta region

Travel eastward into the lush Volta Region, known for its natural beauty and vibrant culture. Upon arrival in Ho, participants will check into the Volta Serene Hotel before gathering for a cultural dinner with local educators and families. Conversations during the meal will highlight the unique challenges and opportunities of education in Ghana’s regional communities, providing a contrast to the systems observed in Accra. The evening serves as both a cultural exchange and a leadership dialogue, set against the rolling hills of the Volta landscape.

Day 9 - june 6

Traditional Leadership & Governance

Spend the day engaging with traditional leaders to gain a deeper understanding of the chieftaincy system and its enduring role in community development and governance. These conversations will explore how cultural traditions intersect with modern education, including community-led initiatives that support student success. A visit to a local school will showcase how regional education systems operate, highlighting both the challenges and creative solutions that emerge when communities lead innovation. The group returns to Accra in the evening with a deeper appreciation for the role of traditional leadership in shaping educational futures across Ghana.

Day 10 - june 7

Closing Reflections & Departures

Spend your final morning in Accra with time to reflect and recharge before departure. Guests may opt for a wellness-focused morning along the coast for journaling and personal reflection. In the afternoon, we’ll gather for a celebratory closing meal with innovation partners, sharing takeaways and committing to next steps that will carry the journey forward. The program concludes with airport transfers for departing flights, but departures are more than goodbyes; they mark the beginning of sustained engagement with Ghana and the global African Diaspora.
