Day 1 - May 29
Welcome Home – Embracing Ghana’s Spirit
Arrive in Accra and feel the warmth of Ghanaian hospitality from the moment you step off the plane. After a seamless hotel transfer and time to rest, gather with fellow travelers for a welcome dinner, where you’ll set intentions for the journey and prepare to embark on an experience that blends culture, education, and innovation.
Day 2 - May 30
Accra city tour & school visits
Dive into the heart of Accra with a guided tour that highlights the city’s layered story, from Independence Square and the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum to the colorful bustle of Makola Market. In the afternoon, shift into Ghana’s educational system with visits to public and private institutions that offer various educational methodologies. The day will close with a cultural dinner and official welcome remarks from our cohosts: Dr. Isaac Addae, Dr. Watechia Lawless, and Larry Goodin.
Day 3 - May 31
Sankofa: Origins & reflection
Journey along Ghana’s scenic coastline toward Cape Coast, pausing at Assin Manso, the hallowed site of the Last Bath. Here, enslaved Africans were forced to cleanse before their final march to the coast. The visit provides space for reflection on history and resilience. In the afternoon, take part in a traditional Akan naming ceremony, a symbolic homecoming ritual that restores ancestral identity and belonging for members of the Diaspora. The day concludes with check-in at an oceanfront resort in Elmina, where evening reflections connect the experience to themes of identity, heritage, and leadership.
Day 4 - June 1
cape coast: lessons from the past
Begin the day with a guided visit to Cape Coast Castle, one of Ghana’s most powerful historical landmarks. Walking through its dungeons, courtyards, and the infamous Door of No Return, participants confront the profound legacy of the transatlantic slave trade. Facilitated group reflections will help process the experience, drawing lessons on perseverance, human dignity, and the responsibility of education to illuminate truth. Afterward, we’ll return to Accra for rest and renewal, carrying forward the insights of this powerful encounter.
Day 5 - june 2
local school visits
Deepen your understanding of Ghana’s educational system through visits to primary, secondary, and post-secondary institutions. Step into classrooms, observe teaching, and engage school leaders on instructional strategies, teacher development, and family engagement. Discover how schools are integrating STEM, digital learning, and entrepreneurship education to prepare students for a rapidly changing world.
Day 6 - June 3
elearning africa conference day 1
The immersion begins at the eLearning Africa Conference, the continent’s premier convening on digital learning, training, and skills development. Participants will attend plenaries and breakout sessions that highlight how technology is transforming education across Africa, from edtech innovations to workforce readiness initiatives. The day offers unparalleled networking opportunities with global education leaders, entrepreneurs, and policymakers, opening doors to potential partnerships and collaborations.
Day 7 - june 4
elearning africa conference day 2
On the second day of the conference, participants delve deeper into workshops and panels examining digital inclusion, blended learning, and entrepreneurship in education. The exhibition hall will feature cutting-edge tools, platforms, and scalable models being developed across the continent. An evening group reflection will help participants extract insights, identify actionable takeaways, and consider how these innovations can influence practices in their own institutions.
Day 8 - june 5
experience the volta region
Travel eastward into the lush Volta Region, known for its natural beauty and vibrant culture. Upon arrival in Ho, participants will check into the Volta Serene Hotel before gathering for a cultural dinner with local educators and families. Conversations during the meal will highlight the unique challenges and opportunities of education in Ghana’s regional communities, providing a contrast to the systems observed in Accra. The evening serves as both a cultural exchange and a leadership dialogue, set against the rolling hills of the Volta landscape.
Day 9 - june 6
Traditional Leadership & Governance
Spend the day engaging with traditional leaders to gain a deeper understanding of the chieftaincy system and its enduring role in community development and governance. These conversations will explore how cultural traditions intersect with modern education, including community-led initiatives that support student success. A visit to a local school will showcase how regional education systems operate, highlighting both the challenges and creative solutions that emerge when communities lead innovation. The group returns to Accra in the late afternoon with a deeper appreciation for the role of tradition in shaping educational futures.
Day 10 - june 7
Closing Reflections & Departures
Spend your final morning in Accra with time to reflect and recharge before departure. Guests may opt for a wellness-focused morning along the coast for journaling and personal reflection. In the afternoon, we’ll gather for a celebratory closing meal with innovation partners, sharing takeaways and committing to next steps that will carry the journey forward. The program concludes with airport transfers for departing flights, but departures are more than goodbyes; they mark the beginning of sustained engagement with Ghana and the global African Diaspora.
